Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)

15 U.S.C. § 1692

Prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices. Collectors cannot call before 8am/after 9pm, contact you at work if told not to, threaten violence, use obscenities, or misrepresent debts. You may sue for actual damages, statutory damages up to $1,000, and attorney's fees.
