Promissory Estoppel

Restatement (Second) of Contracts § 90

A promise that the promisor should reasonably expect to induce action or forbearance, and that does induce such reliance, is binding if injustice can be avoided only by enforcement — even without traditional consideration. Recovery is generally limited to reliance damages.
