At-Will Employment Doctrine

Common Law - At-Will

Most US states follow the at-will employment doctrine, meaning an employer can terminate an employee at any time for any reason (except illegal ones), and likewise an employee can leave at any time. Exceptions: cannot fire based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin (Title VII), age (ADEA, 40+), disability (ADA), or in retaliation for protected activity.
