Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)

15 U.S.C. § 1681

Governs accuracy and use of consumer credit information. You're entitled to one free credit report per year from each major bureau (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion). You can dispute inaccurate info; bureau must investigate within 30 days. Most negative info drops off after 7 years (bankruptcies: 10 years).
